Year 3 at High Acres has begun in grand fashion!
Sunday April 6 - I think, I hope spring has finally arrived. A beautiful day with blue skies, temps in the mid 50s and sunshine all over was too good to stay inside so late in the afternoon I trekked over the High Acres. I parked next to the barn and walked down to the causeway. A year ago it had been much warmer and on April 4 I saw and captured a beautiful image of a great Egret in the pond west of the causeway. Knowing that was too good to happen again i just decided to enjoy the day and the weather. About 1/4 across the causeway something large and white caught my eye - no, not another egret but a big tundra swan floating around. The first few images were not good as I could not steady the camera (no, I didn't bring a tripod). A little farther down the path, however, was a tree and one branch at just the right height to set the camera on while I leaned against the trunk. Success! Maybe not an image for the Professional Nature Photographers top 100 but a good solid image of the swan and a few friends. In the other corner of the pond was a large flock of …not geese, too small. Not mallards, too much white. Upon closer inspection they turned out to be 30+ ring neck ducks! What a bonus. Click the images to see larger.
